Date to Discord ID

The smallest ID Discord could have created at this moment (your local time). Useful for API calls that page messages with `before` or `after`.

Pick a date after 1 January 2015

How to use the snowflake decoder

1

Copy a Discord ID

In Discord, open User Settings → Advanced and turn on Developer Mode. Right-click (or long-press) a user, server, channel, role or message and choose Copy ID.

2

Paste it

The creation date, age and internal fields appear as soon as the ID is valid.

3

Use the result

Copy the UTC time, the Unix timestamp or a <t:…:F> tag that shows the date in each reader's time zone.

How Discord IDs work

Every Discord ID is a snowflake: a 64-bit number that Discord generates when it creates something. Discord's developer documentation describes its layout:

BitsFieldWhat it holds
63 to 22TimestampMilliseconds since the Discord epoch, 1 January 2015 (1420070400000 in Unix milliseconds)
21 to 17Worker IDInternal
16 to 12Process IDInternal
11 to 0IncrementA counter for IDs made by the same process

To get the creation time, shift the ID right by 22 bits and add the Discord epoch: (id >> 22) + 1420070400000. This tool does that with exact 64-bit math, which matters because IDs are too large for ordinary JavaScript numbers. It's also why Discord's API sends IDs as strings.

Useful things to do with it

  • Check account age. Moderators often treat accounts created minutes before joining as a raid warning sign. See how to protect a Discord server from raids.
  • Date a message or server when the client only shows a relative time.
  • Page through messages by date. The "Date to Discord ID" box gives the smallest ID for a moment, which you can pass as before or after when fetching messages through the API.

Frequently asked questions

How do I check when a Discord account was created?

Copy the user's ID and paste it here. A user ID is created with the account, so its timestamp is the account creation date.

Where do I find a Discord ID?

Open User Settings → Advanced and turn on Developer Mode. Then right-click (or long-press on mobile) a user, server, channel, role or message and choose Copy ID. How to find Discord IDs has the full steps.

What is a Discord snowflake?

It's the format Discord uses for every ID. The first 42 bits are the milliseconds since the Discord epoch (the start of 2015), followed by an internal worker ID, a process ID and a counter. That's why any ID tells you when it was made.

Does decoding an ID reveal private information?

No. The only thing an ID contains is when it was created and some internal counters. It doesn't include a username, email, IP address or location.

Why is my ID rejected?

Discord IDs are 17 to 20 digits. Make sure you copied the ID, not a username or an invite code.
