How to use the XP calculator
Choose the level curve
Better Tickets lets you change the base XP and increment. MEE6 uses its fixed formula.
Enter your levels
Set the level you're on and the level you want to reach.
Set XP per message
Enter the minimum and maximum XP per message and the cooldown. Switching curves fills in that bot's defaults.
Read the result
The cards show XP needed, XP-earning messages and active chatting time. The table lists milestone levels.
How Discord level formulas work
Every leveling bot turns total XP into a level with a formula, often called the level curve.
Better Tickets uses a linear increment. Level 1 costs the base XP, and every level after that costs a fixed amount more than the one before:
total XP for level L = base × L + increment × L × (L − 1) ÷ 2With the defaults (base 50, increment 15), level 10 needs 1,175 XP in total and level 50 needs 20,875. Both values can be changed in the leveling settings, and members are re-leveled instantly because levels are calculated from total XP.
MEE6 uses a steeper curve. Its documentation gives the XP needed to pass level n as 5n² + 50n + 100, so level 10 needs 4,675 XP in total and level 50 needs 268,375. MEE6 gives 15 to 25 XP per message, at most once a minute.
Time matters more than XP
XP numbers mean little without the rate. With a 60-second cooldown, a member earns XP at most once per minute, so "active chatting time" is the honest measure of effort. Use it to decide which levels deserve rewards; Discord leveling systems explained has advice on picking them.
Frequently asked questions
How much XP do you need to level up on Discord?
It depends on the bot. In Better Tickets, level 1 costs the base XP (50 by default) and each level after costs the increment (15 by default) more than the last. In MEE6, passing level n costs 5n² + 50n + 100 XP, according to its documentation.
How many messages does it take to reach level 10?
With Better Tickets' defaults (10 to 20 XP per message), level 10 needs 1,175 XP, about 79 XP-earning messages. With MEE6's 15 to 25 XP, level 10 needs 4,675 XP, about 234 messages.
Why doesn't spamming messages level you up faster?
Leveling bots use a cooldown. Only one message per window, usually 60 seconds, earns XP, so the fastest route is steady conversation rather than spam.
Does voice chat give XP?
In Better Tickets it can, if the server sets an XP-per-minute rate for voice. This calculator covers message XP; add voice XP per minute on top when estimating.
Can I change how fast members level up?
In Better Tickets, yes: set the base XP, the increment, the XP range and the cooldown in the leveling settings. Use this calculator to see how long each level takes before you save.
