A Discord ticket transcript is a saved copy of a ticket's conversation, made when the ticket closes so the record survives after the channel is deleted. Transcripts let you review how staff handled a case, settle disputes and keep a history for repeat issues. Keep them in a staff-only place, decide how long you need them, and, if disputes matter, use a bot that can prove a transcript wasn't edited. This guide explains why and shows how Better Tickets does it.
Why transcripts matter
- Disputes. When a member says "staff never told me that", the transcript settles it.
- Staff review. Leads can check tone, accuracy and response times without sitting in every ticket.
- Repeat issues. A member's earlier tickets give context for the next one.
- Appeals. Ban and jail appeals go better when everyone can read what actually happened.
What makes a good transcript setup
- Automatic. Transcripts should be created on close, not when someone remembers.
- Private. Send them to a staff-only channel. Tickets often contain personal details, payment problems or harassment reports.
- Shareable with the member. The person who opened the ticket should be able to get their copy.
- Trustworthy. A transcript is only useful in a dispute if nobody could have edited it.
- Kept for the right time. Decide how long you need them, and download anything you need to keep longer than your bot stores it.
How transcripts work in Better Tickets
Choose where they go
On a ticket category's Channels tab, set a transcript channel and turn on DM transcript to author if members should get a copy. See ticket settings.
Choose when they're made
On Automation, the close behavior decides what happens: Close, transcript, and delete (the default) makes a transcript every time; Close (not delete) keeps the channel and adds a Transcript button; Close and delete, no transcript skips it. See automation.
Close the ticket
/close reason:... or the Close button saves the transcript and posts a private link to it, with the close reason, in your transcript channel and the member's DMs.
Signed transcripts you can verify
Every Better Tickets transcript is cryptographically signed when it's created. Anyone can download a transcript and run /verify with the file. The bot reports whether it's:
- Unmodified, exactly as the bot created it;
- Edited since it was created; or
- Not signed, so it probably didn't come from Better Tickets.
That means a member or a staff member can't quietly change a transcript before sharing it in a dispute.
What's included and for how long
- Length. Each transcript holds the ticket's most recent 400 messages, or 600 and 1,000 with Plus and Max.
- Storage. Transcripts are stored for 60 days, access-protected behind their private link, according to the privacy policy. Download any you need to keep longer.
