XP-for-messages is the easy 80% of a leveling bot, almost every one does that part. What separates a leveling system people actually notice from one that's just a number going up in an embed is the other 20%, and it's worth checking for before picking one.
Chat XP alone misses half the server
A voice-heavy community, gaming servers especially, can have members who are active every day and invisible to a chat-only leveling system. If voice XP isn't a separate, configurable stream, your most engaged members show up as inactive.
A fixed formula fights your server's size
Most leveling bots ship one XP curve for everyone. That formula that works for a 50-member server makes level 40 either trivial to hit in a 5,000-member server, or unreachable in a small one. Being able to set your own curve, instead of accepting whatever the bot's default happens to be, is what keeps leveling feeling earned at any server size.
Role rewards make level-ups mean something
A level-up that's just a number in an embed doesn't change anything about being in the server. Role rewards tied to specific levels, ideally more than one role per threshold, turn leveling into actual status: color roles, channel access, a badge next to the name.
Multipliers, for events without a manual recalculation
A booster perk or a double-XP weekend shouldn't mean going and manually recalculating everyone's XP after the fact. Multipliers scoped to a role or a channel handle it automatically, and turn back off just as easily when the event ends.
A rank card, not just a leaderboard entry
/rank with a progress bar and a visual card is worth more to most members than a plain leaderboard entry, it's the thing people screenshot and post. Whether members can customize their own card background is a smaller but real differentiator.
How better tickets' leveling covers each of these
better tickets' leveling ships all five on the free tier, none of them are a paid unlock:
- Chat and voice XP, tracked and configured separately.
- Your own XP curve, not a fixed formula.
- Role rewards on level-up, more than one role per threshold.
- Multipliers for boosted roles or specific channels.
- A rank card via
/rank, image by default orembed:Yesfor text.
Plus and Max raise the caps (more reward tiers, more multipliers) and add one cosmetic extra, a custom-uploaded rank card background. The mechanic itself was never behind a paywall.
