Overview

/img turns an image into an animated effect: explode, implode, globe or spin. It’s entirely free, requires no setup and works for anyone. In this example, we will use ! as the prefix.

Where the image comes from

Every /img subcommand resolves its source image the same way, checked in this order:

1. Replying to a message: run the command as a reply to a message with an attached image or an embedded image, that’s used.
2. The member option: pick a member and their avatar is used.
3. The image option: attach an image directly.

If none of those apply, the command tells you plainly instead of silently falling back to your own avatar. Replying only works from the prefix command (Discord doesn’t give slash commands any information about what message you replied to), so every /img subcommand also has a !-prefixed shortcut for that: !explode, !implode, !globe, !spin.

The effects

• /img explode: bulges the image outward from its center, fisheye-style.
• /img implode: the opposite of explode, sucks the image inward into a vanishing point.
• /img globe: wraps the image around a spinning globe.
• /img spin: spins the image in place.

Still image or gif?

Explode and implode match their input: give them a still image and you get a still image back with the effect baked in. Give them an animated gif and you get an animated gif back, with the same effect applied to every frame of the original animation. Globe and spin are always animated, since the whole point of both is movement. If the source is already a gif, its own animation keeps playing while the globe spins or the image rotates, instead of using just one frozen frame of it, spin in particular keeps its rotation synced to the source gif’s own loop length rather than a fixed duration.

Limits

Source images are capped at 15MB. Very long source gifs get down-sampled to a maximum of 40 frames so results stay quick to render and reasonably sized, without desyncing timing. See Commands for the full option reference.
